Let me introduce myself. I’m Abi, I teach Religious Studies and Theology in a secondary school and sixth form in SE London. I am passionate about the city, the young people I work with and the subject that I teach. I would describe myself as strong headed, kind, open-minded and confident. I am a follower of Jesus. Growing up in the Christian faith has supported and frustrated my story.

Having grown up in a home where I was free to ask questions, and then pursued the study of other faiths as well as my own in to a teaching career where critical thinking and kindness are the things I most want to instill in my students, I reached a point a few years ago, where I found myself asking questions that I didn’t really think were allowed. You know when you get a lose thread on a jumper and you can’t resist the temptation to pull it, and then the whole thing unravels….That pretty much describes my faith journey.

As I allowed myself to ask the questions that weren’t comfortable, I found myself falling down a rabbit hole of big faith questions with my conventional jumper of faith untangling rapidly. What I am experiencing down the rabbit hole is far more wonderful, more empowering, and more freeing that anything I ever experienced while wearing my conventional jumper of faith.

And so I wanted to write about it. The endless conversations about this stuff with my dad mostly have been stirring up my desire to write. I have no intentions of telling anyone what to think about anything. My hope is to encourage and inspire more freedom to ask the uncomfortable questions and think outside of the picket fence.

Enjoy the journey as much as you can!
